A comparable situation applies to fictional characters in literary works as this feature exists to bring satisfaction for the achievement and fulfillment of each need. On the contrary, various psychological problems will arise and affect the order of life of both humans and fictional characters in literary works if these needs are ignored and not fulfilled. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the hierarchy of human needs portrayed in Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women” novel. The hierarchy of human needs theory by Abraham Maslow is applied to describe and explain how the four characters fulfill their basic needs. In addition, researchers also use a psychological approach to examine the findings of the data from a psychological perspective. In this regard, the data were taken from the 2013 edition of the novel Little Women by Louisa May Alcott in the form of quotes and dialog between characters. Hence, the results of this study show that the four characters named Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy have fulfilled the five stages of basic needs based on Maslow's theory. These needs include; physiological needs, safety needs, love and belonging needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. Additionally, the fulfillment of these needs offers life motivation and values for each character. Keywords: Hierarchy of Human Needs, Little Women, Psychological Approach
