This research aims to describe the factors influence self-confidence on speaking performance. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, this research focuses on the fourth-semester students of English Education Department of Letters and Culture Faculty at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Data collection involves interviews, while data analysis involves thematic analysis. Based on the findings, it is found that the affective factors proposed by Krashen (1982), namely motivation, self-esteem, and anxiety, affected students’ confidence in speaking performance. By conducting this research, the findings provide valuable insights into the experiences and perceptions of second language learners, highlighting the importance of addressing these affective factors to foster self-confidence and improve speaking performance.
