The objective of this study is to determine factors affecting students’ problems in the English speaking examination at MAS Hubulo. The research employs a mixed-method with descriptive approach. Primary data was collected through the distribution of questionnaires, whereas secondary data obtained from interview. The population consisted of 81 students of senior high school, with 15 students selected as the sample using purposive sampling technique. The questionnaire responses were analyzed using Microsoft Excel, while the interview data underwent data transcription, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing stages. The results identified three major factors that significantly influenced students' performance in the English speaking exam: performance pressure (performance condition), anxiety (affective factors), and topical knowledge. On the other hand, the time allotted for the exam and listener support, particularly the examiner's attitude, were found to have the least impact on students' speaking performance. These findings provide valuable insights to improve students' performance in English speaking exams. Keywords: EFL, performance pressure, anxiety, topical knowledge, English speaking examination
