This qualitative research aimed to explore the impact of reading strategies on students' perception in the English Department of University Negeri Gorontalo. The sample size was 20% of the class of 2019, comprising 20 students, out of a total of 101 students. A questionnaire was used to gather data on reading strategies such as brainstorming, visualizing, predicting, making connections, summarizing and questioning. The results of this research revealed that the implementation of strategies such as brainstorming, predicting, and making connections, is perceived enough by the student. But it still could significantly improve students' reading skill in the classroom. On the other hand, questioning, summarizing, visualizing perceived as weak by the student. The students had suggested that there is room for improvement in order to encourage them to learn with teaching reading strategies that were perceived weak by them. Overall, the implementation of teaching strategies is good but it also needs to be improved over time in order to create a good perception among the students. This is because student perception in extensive reading towards strategies used in reading learning in the classroom had an impact to influence and motivated students to actively use their cognitive skills while reading and understanding the reading material.
