Abstract

Observations during the PMS MBKM program at SMP Negeri 1 Bolaang Mongondow Utara in 2023 highlighted a significant lack of vocabulary proficiency among students. This deficiency, reflected in their assessment performance, underscores the need for innovative learning tools to enhance vocabulary skills. This research examines the effectiveness of Instagram as a learning medium to enhance the vocabulary of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bolaang Mongondow Utara. The researcher created the Instagram account @englishvoc.with_nissa to deliver lessons on various topics, including parts of the body, family trees and jobs, weather and seasons, vegetables and fruits, public places, and classroom objects. The study employed quantitative methods, using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25. The findings showed a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery after using Instagram for learning. The average score increased from 48.80% on the pre-test to 72.20% on the post-test, reflecting a 23.4% improvement. The total scores of all students ranged from 1.025 in the pre-test to 1.564 in the post-test. Statistical analysis with the Paired Sample T-test produced a sig. 2-tailed value of 0.001, well below the threshold of 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference. These results confirm that integrating Instagram as a learning medium effectively enhances the vocabulary skills of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Bolaang Mongondow Utara.
