This study aims to look how methods and strategies use in teaching English between public schools and private schools. The research used a qualitative approach by applying interviews and documentation in the data collection process which involved one teacher as a research participant from each school, namely MTSN 01 Kota Gorontalo and MTS Wahdah Islamiyah Gorontalo. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis data to see the methods and strategies used. The results showed that there were differences between the methods and strategies used by the two participants, namely the Discovery Learning method and conventional teaching methods or traditional teaching methods. The strategies used are direct teaching strategies and game strategies. Applying the methods and strategies that the participants used resulted in good learning outcomes for each student from the two schools. The success of applied method and strategy lies in students` ability in classroom. The findings of this study provide a better understanding of the methods and strategies of teaching English in public and private schools. This information can be a reference for English teachers in developing methods and strategies that are appropriate to the context.
