Abstract

Munawarah. 321 416 061. 2023. “Improving Students’ Reading Comprehension Through Prediction Strategy”. Skripsi. English Department, Faculty of Letters and Culture, Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. The first advisor is Dr. Jolanda H.D. Pilongo, M.Pd. and second advisor is Fahria Malabar, S.Pd.,M.A. Ultimately, the prediction strategy are hyphotised to increase students' reading comprehension. By utilizing this strategy, the study seeks to address an identification of the using of prediction strategy in main idea identification, stated details, vocabulary, reference understanding, and inference making. The primary objective was to find out whether or not prediction strategy can increase students reading comprehension. The method used in this research was quantitative method. The sample of this research was 8 grade students in SMP Negeri 13. The result showed that main idea increase 18,75%, stated detail increase 18,75%, vocabulary increase 20,62%, reference increase 23% and inference increase 23,57%. Moreover the hypothesis showed H1 (accepted) because tcount > ttable or 6,85> 2,10062 which suggests increases in reading comprehension measures after using prediction strategy, it can be concluded that the hypothesis was supported.
